A Minor French Delight

I’m resting my elbow this morning in advance of a physical therapy session a little later today, so I’m going to throw out into the world one chart dig from the Billboard Hot 100 from October 4, 1975, thirty-eight years ago tomorrow.

Not quite at the bottom of the chart – one spot up from the bottom at No. 109, to be precise – sat the only charting single by the disco duo of Jeanne Napoli and Barbara Glasson, recording as Napoli & Glasson: A disco version in French of the Jackson 5’s “Never Can Say Goodbye.”

Titled “Il Est Toujours Temp Pour Partir (Never Can Say Goodbye),” the single on the Vigor label bubbled under the Hot 100 for one more week, moving up to No. 106 and then falling out of the chart. It’s actually not too bad. Tomorrow, we’ll take a look at some of the records that were above it.
